High Bullen and the foot & mouth crisis

“…The countryside is still open, you can visit pubs, cafes, museums, art galleries and High Bullen…” (The Prime Minister Tony Blair addressing the nation last week)

Dear Valued Visitor,

As we’re sure you have heard (unless you’ve just come out of a coma or been on Mars for a few weeks) the countryside is suffering from a catastrophic crisis as a result of the foot and mouth epidemic. Unfortunately, the rights of way on Exmoor National Park are off-limits at present: what this means to us is that we are unable to open in April, as normal, and take you hacking across the moor, until the rights of way have re-opened.

As we are not in an infected area, there is still free access to High Bullen and the surrounding area. You are still more than welcome to visit High Bullen and we would be delighted if you do support us in these challenging times by coming to stay.

Throughout the crisis, we are continuing to run our very successful Harmony with the Horse and Mindpower Riding courses (see Your Horse magazine from March 2001 onwards and ‘Horse & Rider’ magazine Nov 2000). We are very lucky in that Perry now has a monthly article in ‘Your Horse’ Magazine, entitled ‘Mindpower Riding,’ which is based on some of the exciting ideas he uses on the courses.

Many people have enquired about doing week-long Harmony with the Horse courses, as opposed to just a weekend. We are therefore excited to be able to offer you “Harmony with the Horse Pony Club Camp Week for Adults!” You will be provided with your own horse for the week, and we will arrange a huge variety of things to do, in or outdoors depending on the weather. We are committed to giving you the chance to have more fun with horses than you can imagine; totally boosting your riding skills, and accelerating your learning more than you thought possible: all accompanied by High Bullen’s usual warm hospitality, home from home atmosphere and excellent food.

During the crisis we are also offering B&B for riders or non-riders (with optional riding instruction by the hour) and we have the lodges available for self-catering or full board.

We hope you find the above options of interest and will support us during the foot and mouth crisis by coming to High Bullen for a holiday, a change of scenery or a much-needed break.
